Ingredients

The Foundation
  • 4 small/medium flour tortillas Choose fresh, pliable wraps; whole wheat is an option.
  • 4 Tbsp creamy dressing (e.g., Ranch) or hummus Used as the essential binding and flavor layer.
Fillings
  • 8 slices sliced deli meat Turkey, ham, or chicken breast are excellent choices.
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar or Mozzarella Cheese Cubed into small, uniform pieces for even distribution.
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced cucumber Adds crucial texture and crunch.
  • 8 small cherry tomatoes For threading onto the skewer tips for garnish.
Equipment
  • 8 Wooden or metal skewers Six-inch skewers work best for stability.

Equipment

  • 8 Wooden or Metal Skewers Six-inch skewers work best for stability.
  • 1 Sharp Kitchen Knife Essential for clean, precise slicing of the rolled tortillas.
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 Airtight Container Required for chilling the rolls and for storage.

Method

  1. A clean working surface is immediately established. A thin, even layer of the chosen creamy dressing or hummus is generously applied across the entire surface of one tortilla.
  2. The deli meat slices are carefully arranged first over the spread. Subsequently, the cheese cubes and cucumber slices are distributed evenly. Layers must be kept thin to permit a tight roll.
  3. The filled tortilla is then rolled very tightly from one edge to the other. Constant, firm pressure is utilized to create a secure, compact cylinder. Repeat for all remaining tortillas.
  4. The assembled rolls must be momentarily refrigerated for approximately 10 minutes. This chilling process causes the ingredients to firm up, facilitating a much cleaner slice (Pro Tip).
  5. Using a very sharp knife, the chilled roll is skillfully sliced into precise, equal segments (usually 5 pieces per roll). These pieces form the core of the final skewer.
  6. A skewer is carefully inserted through the center of each segment. The pieces are threaded onto the skewer, often alternated with extra vegetables (like the cherry tomatoes) for a charming appearance.

Notes

Expert Tip: To further prevent sogginess, slightly stale tortillas can be used, as their structural integrity is superior to very fresh wraps.
Storage: Skewers must be stored in an airtight container and consumed within two to three days.
